Student Spotlight #1
Today’s student in the spotlight is … James Anderson!
CSDS: So James, how long have you been with CSDS?
About four and a half years.
CSDS: Now, your role has slightly changed here because you are no longer just a student here are you?
Yes, my role now is also as a volunteer helper. Wendy (founder) has spent a lot of time developing me as an actor, and I wanted to share that and help with the other students.
CSDS: What’s your favourite thing about being with CSDS?
Its not school! (Obviously Joking) Its a really friendly atmosphere, and really focused work because everyone is there because they want to be there.
CSDS: What is one thing that you have done or achieved at Centre Stage that you are most proud of?
Well because of the skills that I developed at Centre Stage I was able to play a leading role in a show called ‘Remembrance and Reflections’ at the Mermaid Theatre in London. I also really enjoyed doing assisting with the lighting for the 2015 (CSDS) showcase, which is another thing I got from being here which is an appreciation for everything that happens in a theatre not just the acting and performing but also the technical side.
CSDS: What would you like to do when you leave school?
I would like to be a pilot or engineer in the RAF.
CSDS: Wow and has Centre Stage helped with that career choice in anyway?
Well it really helped with the interviews, as I was able to build my confidence here and then use that in the recruitment process. Its really cut-throat there and good personality and social skills are so important.
CSDS: Who are your favourite actors?
Oh no, I am so bad with names!
CSDS: Give me the characters and I’ll see if I know the actor
Luke Skywalker
CSDS: Mark Hamill.
Yeah! Because it was back in the day when filmmaking didn’t have so many special effects and CGI.
CSDS: Ah bits of a Star Wars purist are you?
No, I’m quite easy-going; I also like David Tennant as Dr Who because he was really fun to watch!
CSDS: If you could play any role, what would it be and why?
Mickey in Blood Brothers, it seems like such a fun character to develop and play.
CSDS: Is Blood brothers your favourite show then?
Probably yes, I also really liked War Horse but I was more affected by Blood Brothers.
CSDS: Great well thanks so much for talking to us today James
Pleasure!
